Every event listed under GoatConf's name accepts this charter and the code of conduct. It follows the spirit of the FOSDEM charter.
What GoatConf is
- Free to attend. Tickets for the core days are free: you get one by registering, which also tells us how many people to expect. Closer to June, people with a ticket also register for the sessions they want, because each room has only so many seats; seats nobody registered for go to whoever is at the door.
- Small on purpose. The organiser brings a minimal core: the rooms, the talks and the breaks. Everything else is added by the people who come.
- As little personal data as we can. You never have to give us anything the event does not need, unless the law or safety requires it. The registration list is never sold or shared, and it is deleted once the feedback survey has gone out.
Money
- No money passes through the organiser. A supporter pays the supplier of a named item directly, or gives something in kind.
- Every euro is public. Each payment and gift is listed in the public budget, from the first one.
- Supporters do not buy content. No talk, no stage time and no attendee list can be paid for. When we thank a supporter, we name exactly what they paid for.
- Content and money are kept apart. Who speaks is never decided by who supports. Proposals from the open call are read without names first.
The four rules for events people add
- The core days never depend on an added event. If a host, a supporter or a venue falls through, the core days go on unchanged.
- Accepted, or not GoatConf's. The organiser accepts an event only if it follows this charter and the code of conduct and fits the program. Only accepted events are part of GoatConf and shared with the people who come.
- Honest names. An accepted event is "your name, part of GoatConf 2027", run by its host, never "GoatConf presents".
- The host carries its own costs and risks. GoatConf lends its audience and its calendar, not money.
